The Results Are in the Depth, Not the Breadth

You have been learning the next strategy instead of mastering the one you already have. John Mendez lived that loop and found a way out.

This one is for you, the one who keeps adding to the toolkit.

You bought the course on paid ads. You sat through the masterclass on email sequences. You followed the thread on SEO, saved the post on organic content, and bookmarked the video on cold outreach. And somehow, with all of that knowledge stacked up, you are still in roughly the same place you were eighteen months ago.

So what is actually going on?

I sat down with John Mendez for his third appearance on the show, the full episode, and he said something that I want to hand directly to you.

"The results you're looking for are not in the breadth of knowledge. They're found in the depth of execution."

Read that again. Because I think it names the exact trap you have been living in.

You are not under-informed. You are under-committed.

John went all in on his business in 2023. He had a strong launch, quit his job, and stepped into full-time entrepreneurship. Then the next two years humbled him. Revenue flatlined. He cut his coaches to manage expenses. His income took a serious dive right around the same time his cost of living went up.

And through all of that, one of the things he kept bumping into was the temptation to learn his way out of the problem. To find the new angle. To pivot to the thing that was working for someone else.

Eventually he did pivot, from teaching AI to helping people build and run webinars as a client acquisition tool. But the pivot was not random. It came after he traced back to what he had always been genuinely good at and passionate about, digital marketing and teaching, and then committed to going deep on that instead of wide.

That is a very different thing from just chasing the next shiny framework.

Play to your strengths, not your anxieties

When John talks about who webinars are right for, he frames it the same way a good strength coach would frame a training program. Find what you are built for, and make that impossible to stop. He referenced the football analogy: if you run a 4.2 forty, you do not spend your offseason trying to get stronger so you can run through people. You get faster. No one can catch you as it is.

First place gets all the endorsements. And in most markets, the gap between first and second is not nearly as wide as the reward gap suggests. So the edge you are looking for is not in learning one more thing. It is in being measurably better at the right thing.

So the question worth sitting with is this: what is the one channel, one offer, one skill that already has some traction for you? Not the one you think you should be developing. The one that actually fits the way you think and communicate and show up.

For John, it turned out to be teaching in a group setting and building out the full digital marketing infrastructure behind a webinar. He did not discover that from a course. He discovered it by running a five-day challenge, getting a few people to show up, and noticing that there was real demand and real results there.

Three clients came shortly after, two with deposits plus revenue share. That is proof of concept. That is what depth looks like in practice.

The awareness shift underneath all of this

Here is what I think is really happening when someone keeps adding strategies instead of stacking reps on the one they have.

It is easier to feel productive by learning than it is to feel vulnerable by committing. Learning is low-stakes. Execution is where the feedback is real and sometimes it stings.

But the stagnation you are feeling right now is not a knowledge gap. It is a commitment gap. And no amount of new information is going to close it. Only reps will.

Pay attention to what is already working, even a little. Then go deeper into that instead of wider into something new.

John's story is a good reminder that the path forward is almost never the brand new thing. It is the thing you have been half-doing, finally done with your whole attention.

Your next step

If you are not sure which of your strengths to double down on, or which area of your business is quietly draining you instead of building you, that is exactly what the free 6-Principle assessment is designed to surface. It takes the Prime Performance Process and runs it against where you actually are right now, across Resilience, Intentionality, Clarity, Optimization, Influence, and Opportunity, so you can stop guessing and start directing your energy where it counts.

You can take it at /assess.
